Problems With Your Heater? How To Tell When It's Time To Call A Heating Contractor

Hunter Ford

If you're like most people, you only think of calling a heating contractor when your heater breaks down. However, if you wait until your heater breaks down, you may actually end up spending more money than you need to. Not only that, but your health might suffer as well. Here are some signs you should talk to a heating contractor near you.

You're Hearing Unusual Noises

It's not unusual to hear unusual noises in your home. Some of those noises come from the ordinary settling that can occur during the normal aging process. But, there are other noises that can indicate a serious problem, especially if those noises come from the heater. If you start hearing unusual noises coming from your heater, you may be tempted to ignore them, but you shouldn't. Instead, call a heating contractor to schedule an inspection.

You've Found Unsafe Conditions

When you have a family, you want to make sure that your home is a safe place to be. Unfortunately, heating problems can turn your home into a very unsafe place, especially if those problems aren't resolved quickly. Some unsafe conditions involve pilot problems and gas leaks. Luckily, those issues are easy to identify, especially if you know what you're looking for. With pilot problems, you want to watch the color of the flame. An orange flame is a sure sign that there's a problem with the heater. Next are gas leaks. You can identify gas leaks with the use of a carbon monoxide detector. As soon as your carbon monoxide detector goes off, contact a proper service immediately.

You've Completed a Home Renovation Project

If you've done major renovation on your home, you might have outgrown your current heater. That can create a couple of problems for you. First, your home won't get as warm as you'd like it to. Second, your heating bills will go through the roof. That's because your heater will work harder to keep up with your heating needs. To overcome these problems, contact your heating contractor. They can help you to design a new heating system that will work well for your home renovation.

Your Nose is Suffering the Effects

If you're worried about your heater, pay attention to your nose. You might not realize this, but heater problems can present themselves through your nose. First, dirty ducts can make your allergy symptoms more severe. Second, problems with the heater can lead to an increased occurrence of nosebleeds. If your allergies are getting worse, or you're dealing with frequent nosebleeds, contact a heating contractor as soon as you can.
